What exactly is an Agile Scrum Master?
A Scrum Master can be identified as a servant leader, who has all the knowledge of the agile framework and the business areas.
He or she is responsible for transmitting the values of the agile methodology and, having this knowledge, must ensure that everyone on the team respects and follows these values practices.
The Scrum Master is a member of the Scrum Team, which in most cases is divided into three parts, being: the Development Team, the Product Owner, and the Scrum Master.
In addition, Scrum Master is responsible for enhancing the work of the team and making it independent for the performance of functions, without allowing interference in communication between the parties involved in the production.
Being a good observer, a good listener and a good facilitator are excellent characteristics that a good Scrum Master must-have.
What are the key responsibilities of a Scrum Master?
The Scrum Master is a reference for the application of the Scrum method. He or she is the person who will be used to observe the changes generated by the agile framework and by dealing with people who have no practice in applying this method.
The Scrum Master acts as a teacher of your team, showing himself to be of service to help you in implementing the Agile Methodology.
In addition to being an example in the use of the framework, ensuring the practice of concepts by the entire development team.
Act as a facilitator
Facilitates the Scrum Team’s work, so that its members organize themselves and maximize their focus on product development.
Communicate effectively and continually seek to improve teams’ work processes, doing it with quality and productivity, in addition to facilitating Scrum events.
The Scrum Master, as a facilitator, directly intervenes in the process, structure, and context of the Scrum Team to help the team become more effective.
But at the same time, the Scrum Master encourages the Scrum Team to decide how they can improve their process, structure, and context and teaches them to develop the skills necessary to act on their own, as the responsibility for increasing their effectiveness belongs to the team itself.
Shield against interference
The Scrum Master protects the team from any interference that may arise in the development team’s day to day. When the team is in the development process, any interruption or difficulty encountered must be resolved so that the Scrum team is not harmed in its stages.
Assist the Product Owner
The relationship that exists between these two parts of the team directly reflects on the product development. The Scrum Master must work closely with the Product Owner in the production of the Product Backlog so that it conforms to the customer’s requirements and obtains the highest possible value.
